The Samnites, warlike people who regularly fought and beat the Roman Legions, ancestral home is Molise. Over the years the Samnites became obsessed with the Roman culture, but their intense battles are still remembered today. After the fall of Rome, during the period of invading Lombard and Normans battled for the region of Molise, the region recieved its name. Moliseis the name of a castle and the name of a local warlord family. Molise was part of the Kingdom of Naples, from the high aged untill the Italian unification in 1861,and the power was split between Bourbon and Spanish overlords. Molise became an official Region of Italy in 1963. The capitals for the two smal provinces in Molise were Camobasso and Insernia.
